If air conditioner concerns are not handled, your system could suddenly stop working and leave you and your family out to dry. However, there are a couple warning signs you can look out for to know when it's time for air conditioner service or replacement before your system breaks down.

Air Conditioner Age

The average life expectancy of air conditioners is between 12-17 years. If your air conditioner is 15 years or older it's a good idea to start air conditioner shopping now. Selecting a new air conditioner isn't a decision you want to have to make on the fly. Give yourself enough time to view and weigh all of your possibilities.

More Frequent Air Conditioner Repairs

The last two years of an air conditioner’s life are when your system ends up with the most breakdowns. Take a moment to add up the money you've been spending on air conditioner repair the last two years - a new system might be more cost effective.

Strange Noises

Have you heard any odd sounds coming from your system? Air conditioners start making odd noises near the end of their lifespan. If your air conditioner is turning on and off frequently or blowing chilly air, it's time to think about getting your system replaced.

A Dry or Dusty Home

Older air conditioners don't humidify or filter the air in your home all that well. Your home may start feeling stuffy and anyone in the home with allergies could notice more symptoms. Some other red flags are: static shocks, drooping plants and cracking furniture.
